In the following video you will find a video tutorial on how to calibrate the axes of a camera gimbal:
How does a gimbal work?
A gimbal works through a 3-axis stabilization, which balances the camera in a fixed position through magnetic motors. These must therefore be calibrated precisely in advance so that the stabilization works without problems during the shoot. All videographers and experienced content creators know how obstructive the smallest movements can be.
No matter if it is the wind, some potholes or your own unsteady hands. Thus, for an optimal recording, a good stabilization of the camera is indispensable. Improve your video quality by using a gimbal - for perfect steady shots that you can enjoy watching later and be really proud of the results!
Where can you use a professional gimbal?
You need a good video tripod for production of all music videos, VLogs, Youtube videos, short films or commercial productions. Many bloggers and professionals find it a strain to hold a camera or smartphone steady in their hands for long periods of time. Eventually the muscle strength wears off and your hand starts to shake, another factor that affects video quality is simple footsteps that cause shaking in the video. Even the sensor stabilization of system cameras can't really catch this.
For which cameras is a gimbal suitable?
You can differentiate tripods depending on the camera size and purpose: for larger cameras there is a DSLR gimbal, for action cameras a GoPro video tripod fits best, for videos with a smartphone a small smartphone gimbal is quite sufficient, an all-in-one gimbal is your choice if you want to have a video tripod and a camera in one device.
A video gimbal is suitable for the following camera sizes:
- DSLR - It requires a high load capacity
- System cameras - The gimbal can usually be much more compact
- Smartphones - Mobile phone gimbals are compact, lightweight and still have functions like a selfie stick integrated
What is important to consider when buying?
Before you start looking for the perfect video tripod, you should be clear about the subject, all the details of your equipment and personal requirements. If you always shoot static footage, with no camera movements such as timelapses in the harbor, you are more likely to need static stabilization. For these purposes, a well-equipped tripod is best.
However, if you are filming mostly in motion (such as running), then a gimbal or hover tripod is a perfect solution for you. It's equally advisable to read up on the possible loads of the different tripods before you buy. Keep in mind the weight of your camera and the lens/setup you plan to use. Last but not least, pay attention to the dimensions of your camera, that the axes of the gimbal do not collide with the camera.
You can find this data in the article description or the technical data of our product detail pages, as well as in the manual of your device. We are also happy to advise you on this topic.
Which functions should a good gimbal have?
The built-in functions should always be aligned with your requirements for the device. For example, helpful features could make it easier for you to film: an extendable extension pole, the hardware buttons to start and stop recording, an ergonomic grip for better handling, and the flexible, heavy-duty metal connections.
To make sure the image stays sharp as well, it's wise to see if the video gimbal has a follow focus built in, which can either be purchased as an add-on to the gimbal, or is directly included. A follow focus allows you to adjust the focus without touching the lens. This allows another person to control the focus over a distance and the cameraman / camerawoman to concentrate on guiding the camera.
A Bluetooth function mostly offers an extension of the functions like a picture transfer to the device / cell phone. Another function that is mostly offered with Bluetooth is the adjustment of the camera. (aperture, iso, exposure time)
Which brands are recommended?
All modern video tripods have advanced features for impressive results. Experience has shown that the excitement of very good quality lasts much longer than a brief enjoyment of a lower price. For example, high-quality tripods from well-known suppliers such as DJI, Zhiyun and Feiyun ensure long-lasting satisfaction. Improve the quality of your recordings with a good image stabilizer and capture the unforgettable moments of your life. A good video tripod ensures easy handling of the camera and razor-sharp images - without any blurring!
